The short version: we collect only what we need to run the game and leaderboard. We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. You can delete your account at any time.

Who we are

Beat My IQ ("we", "us", "our") operates the website beatmyiq.com, an online IQ challenge and leaderboard game. We are operated by an individual and can be contacted at privacy@beatmyiq.com.

What information we collect

We collect the following information when you use Beat My IQ:

Account information: If you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored as a one-way hash — we never store your actual password). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture from Google.
Game data: Your quiz scores, accuracy, time taken, and category breakdowns. This is the core data that powers the leaderboard.
Session data: A session token stored in your browser's local storage to keep you logged in. Sessions expire after 30 days.
Usage data: Standard server logs including IP addresses and browser information. These are used for security and debugging and are not linked to your account.

We do not collect payment information, physical addresses, phone numbers, or any sensitive personal data.

How we use your information

To operate the game and display your scores on the leaderboard
To maintain your account and keep you logged in
To show your ranking relative to other players
To improve the game based on aggregate (anonymous) usage patterns
To respond to support requests you send us

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating Beat My IQ.

Google sign-in

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We use your email to identify your account and your name to generate a username. We use your profile picture as your in-game avatar. We do not receive your Google password, contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.

Your use of Google sign-in is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

How we store your data

Your data is stored in Cloudflare's D1 database, hosted on Cloudflare's global network. Cloudflare is a US-based company and your data may be stored on servers in the United States or other countries. Cloudflare's privacy practices are described in their Privacy Policy.

Passwords are hashed using SHA-256 before storage. We never store plaintext passwords.

Sharing your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:

Leaderboard: Your username, country, and scores are displayed publicly on the leaderboard. Your email address is never displayed publicly.
Service providers: Cloudflare processes your data to serve the website. They are bound by their own privacy commitments.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights or the rights of others.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to store your session token and user preferences. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. The only data stored in your browser is what is necessary to keep you logged in.

Your rights and choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access: You can view your scores and account information in your profile.
Correction: You can update your username and country in your profile settings.
Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing privacy@beatmyiq.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Portability: You can request a copy of your data by emailing us.
Guest play: You can play the game without creating an account. Guest scores are not saved to our servers.

Children's privacy

Beat My IQ is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@beatmyiq.com and we will delete it promptly.

Data retention

We retain your account information and scores for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days. Aggregate, anonymised statistics (such as the total number of tests taken) may be retained indefinitely.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, hashed password storage, and secure session management. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of Beat My IQ after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
